Stetson Bennett drawing notable praise from Rams head coach Sean McVay during OTAs

It's been so far, so good for Stetson Bennett since he made his return to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason after missing his rookie season in full due to undisclosed personal reasons.

At the start of Rams OTAs, one of the people he's drawn praise from is also the most important, team head coach Sean McVay.

McVay spoke to the media about Bennett's progress throughout offseason activities shortly before the 2024 NFL Draft.

“He’s done a great job being engaged in the meetings. We’ve had a lot of individual meetings up to this point," McVay said. I know (Quarterbacks Coach) Dave Ragone has really enjoyed his interaction with him throughout the first six days, if you will, with Monday through Thursday last week, and then now being through two days this week and so it’s been good."

He describes Bennett as having a "good look in his eyes." It's clear the former Georgia quarterback has been locked in on making a strong impression in what seems like a real second chance at football's highest stage.

"I mean, he looks good. He’s had a good look in his eyes," McVay said. He’s been attentive in the meetings and then I’m looking forward to next week to being able to get out on the grass with all of our players and Stetson being one of them.”

What Bennett is doing is working -- or at least keeping the Rams comfortable enough -- as the team did not draft or sign a new face at quarterback in 2024, meaning the room is currently composed of Bennett, starter Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo, who the team signed earlier in the offseason.

Selecting a quarterback was not something McVay had ruled out in the days leading up to the event, either.

“I think you leave all options on the table,” McVay said. “Stetson’s been here. We’re in phase one. It’s been just meetings and then lifting so our ability to get out on the field with the players hasn’t existed yet. That’s the thing that’s the most fun."

How Bennett continues to progress in Los Angeles and what the remainder of his NFL career will something to keep an eye on, especially if he can stay on this upward trajectory.
