Giants HC Brian Daboll gives honest assessment of tight end Darren Waller's future with team

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller has been contemplating retirement throughout this offseason. Injuries over the past couple of seasons have taken toll on his pro career, and he could choose to hang up the cleats. On Monday, Giants head coach Brian Daboll was asked for any new info on Waller going into the 2024 season.

Daboll declined to share an update on Darren Waller's status for next season.

Daboll notes that there's nothing to add regarding Waller's outlook for next year. Additionally, they will keep those discussions "in-house" for right now while he mulls over his options.

For New York, Brock Bowers is a potential option for them at TE in round one. Losing Waller would make that selection make even more sense. On the other hand, a Waller return could make the Giants look towards wide receiver in round one.

That being said, the Giants may not get an answer from the veteran before the draft. It's clear that Daboll has been involved with Waller during this process, but the tight end is not sure of his decision yet.
