Did the NFL mock Ravens WR Zay Flowers on social media?

It may be a while before Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers lives down his forgettable performance in Sunday’s 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

In the final minute of the third quarter with Baltimore trailing 17-7, Flowers hauled in a 54-yard pass from Lamar Jackson that got the Ravens to the Kansas City 10-yard line. However, he immediately drew a taunting penalty on the play after provoking Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who covered him on the play.

The flag backed Baltimore up to the 25-yard line, which wouldn’t have mattered much had Flowers not done something even more bone-headed just four plays later. The 23-year-old wideout caught what would have been his second touchdown of the game, but he fumbled the ball just short of the goal line as Snead punched it out, turning it back over to Kansas City to start the fourth quarter.

The NFL’s official X account tweeted a video of the play and the caption the social media team chose to use raised the question of whether or not they were intentionally mocking Flowers or not.

It’s unclear if the original tweet was meant as a slight toward Flowers, it was deleted minutes later and reposted with a different caption that read, “What a play by Snead to prevent the TD.”

Flowers finished the game with five receptions on eight targets for a career-high 115 yards and a touchdown. It was his second 100-yard game of the season. Flowers led the Ravens in receptions, targets and yards during both the regular and postseasons.
