Why Is This NCAA Champion Still A Free Agent?

Theo Pinson is coming off a year where he played in 40 regular season games for the  Dallas Mavericks.  

The 27-year-old averaged 2.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 35.6% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point range. 

This summer, Pinson became a free agent, and he still remains available to be signed by any team in the league on October 12. 

Pinson initially went undrafted in 2018 after playing four seasons of college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels.  

During his time with UNC, he averaged 6.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest while shooting 42.7% from the field in 122 games (he also helped them win the 2017 NCAA Championship). 

Over five seasons in the NBA, Pinson has played for the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks. 

He has career averages of 2.7 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 32.0% from the field and 26.1% from the three-point range in 127 regular season games. 

Pinson has also appeared in three NBA playoff games with the Nets. 

In addition to his time in the NBA, Pinson has also played in the G League.  

His career averages are 19.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 44.1% from the field and 38.2% from the three-point range in 44 regular season games.   

As for the Mavs, they are coming off a year where they were the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a 38-44 record.
