USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners took a critical loss on Friday night, losing 8-5 to the Texas Rangers.

The M's are now 84-69 on the season but have fallen to 1.0 game back in the battle for the American League West crown. They are also 0.5 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the American League and are currently out of the playoff picture entirely.

Despite the loss, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh made some team history on Friday night by hitting his 30th home run of the season.

Per @MarinersPR:

Cal Raleigh is the first @Mariners catcher to hit 30+ home runs in a season in franchise history.

Raleigh's 30 HR lead @MLB catchers.

He went 2-for-5 on Friday night with a three-run homer and a double and continues his breakout year at the plate.

He's got the 30 homers, and has added 74 RBI. He's hitting .236, an improvement on his .219 career average, and is now hitting right in the middle of the Mariners' order.

For his career, he's got 59 homers and 150 RBI. He's 26-years-old and continues to be a major part of the Mariners' present and future.

Seattle will take on Texas again on Saturday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET as Logan Gilbert (SEA) pitches against Jordon Montgomery (TEX).

Gilbert is 13-6 with a 3.77 ERA while Montgomery is 9-11 with a 3.38 ERA. He was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline.
