Milwaukee Brewers Add to Two Players to 40-Man Roster, Protect Them From Rule 5 Draft
USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers are protecting catcher Jeferson Quero and right-handed pitcher Bradley Blalock from the Rule 5 draft by adding them to the 40-man roster.

Brewers' reporter Adam McCalvey had the information on social media:

The Brewers have added C Jeferson Quero and RHP Bradley Blalock to the 40-man roster. Protects them from the Rule 5 Draft.

Quero is ranked the No. 2 prospect in the organization, per MLB.com, while Blalock is 17th.

Here's a portion of the prospect profile on Quero:

Quero’s defensive work has popped since he first signed. He moves well behind the plate, earning strong reviews for his blocking and receiving, and Milwaukee officials have long been impressed with how well he works with pitchers at such a young age. He’s always shown plus arm strength too, and that truly popped last year in the Fall League, when he caught 11 of 24 (45.8 percent) attempted base stealers. His 30.6 percent CS rate during the regular season may be a more realistic expectation over a larger sample, but still shows just how good he can be at limiting the opponents' run game.

Offensively, the right-handed slugger shows good pitch recognition (no surprise for a catcher) out of a relaxed setup at the plate, and his power potential started to turn more into actual production with increased launch angles in 2022

He hit .262 at Double-A this past season.

As for Bradley:

His fastball is around 93-96 mph, and he controls it well for someone who missed a ton of recent time. On top of that, he throws his secondaries for strikes as well. Some evaluators, including Milwaukee officials upon acquiring Blalock, prefer his power curveball around 78-82 mph that can mess with hitters' eye levels. Others prefer his mid-80s slider with its more horizontal look. He also uses an upper-80s splitter as his changeup, but it’s only somewhat effective at holding off splits issues against lefties.

He pitched at a multitude of Single-A levels this season, going 6-1 with a 2.82 ERA in 15 starts.
